WORKSHOP: An introduction to Griefwork
Griefwork?
Grief is entangled with the loss of someone or something: a divorce, the death of a loved one, illness, etc. When we wander around, we see more humans also experiencing loss in the non-human world around us. Harm to trees, forests, oceans, extinction of species, pressure on/collapse of various systems. This can make us feel powerless, lost, angry, desperate, sad.
“This night will pass, then we have work to do.”
–Rumi
Griefwork. To face what lies ahead of us. To deeply reflect and ask ourselves the question what the impact is on ourselves, our environment, our body, our heart, our soul. It is so important to give grief a place in our lives in order to face the past, now and the future. Partly thanks to grief rituals, we can grow the capacity of our hearts so that we learn to hold space for these unpleasant and often unwelcome feelings. The strength of doing this in community is that we don't have to carry this burden alone: the entity/body of the group contains our grief together with us.
What can you expect?
“Slow and down are the modes of the soul.”
-Michael Meade
Today we come together to experience what our understanding is of Soulwork in these unraveling times. An introduction to Griefwork means: We touch upon what it means to grieve together: With words, music, and experience.
In case you consider attending our workshop, you are invited to bring an object that is for you personally linked to grief. It can be f.e. an obituary card, a piece of wood from a tree that was recently cut down, a symbol for Palestine, or something else. You are also very welcome if you don’t have an object with you.
Who are we?
We are Yannick and Dorien, and we go through life as partners. In addition to having fun, playing games, and teasing each other, there is something else deeply human that connects us. Individually and together, we are driven not to shy away from our fears, discomforts, and other intense feelings. This means that we regularly choose to deal with the discomfort within ourselves, between us, and in the world. We would like to expand our community, which is why we have chosen to offer grief rituals together.
Yannick has immersed himself in the work of Joanna Macy, Dorien in the work of Francis Weller. She is a musician and singer-songwriter.
Together we are following the training course ‘Facilitating Our Future’ according to Arnold Mindell's Processwork methodology.
